WHAT A GREAT JOB, HOWEVER IF I MAY MAKE A SUGGESTION. YOU SHOULD PUT SOME RUBBER HOSE OR SOMETHING OVER THE CHAINS OR THEY ARE GOING TO ABRADE THE BRAKELINES WHEN THEY GET DUST AND DIRT ON THEM. THE MIGHT EVEN WEAR THRU THE DIFF. HOUSING.

Hey Chuck, You are doing an incredible job. I’ve learned so much from your reporting. I’ve given your site to so many people that are following you. Keep up the great work and stay safe out there. I’ve sent your credentials to FOX to replace Geraldo. Best of luck, Tennant

    Dear Globetrotters.

This is the best blog of the tour. Excellent pictures of cars, religious buildings and good stories of the people behind it.

How about a picture of yourself and your car.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

    All the best,

  15. Lloyd,
Saw the link to your web blog in the Redeemer news. Great coverage and I am interested in the horses you saw on the way to Shymkent (Day 19). Mary and I are breeding Caspian Horses ( http://www.caspiansporthorse.com/), which are a rare breed that was rediscovered in northern Iran in the 1960s and exported to England in the 1970s. They are pony-sized and look similar to the horses on your blog. I am interested in any more information about small horses you’ve seen in this part of the world.

My car collection sets idle in our machine shed, while our tractor, manure spreader, truck, horse trailer, etc. receive most of the attention. We’re enjoying living in rural Missouri and working in Saint Louis. Hope all is well with you and Gene.

    Lloyd and Chuck,

Congratulations on a great job, both mechanically as well as reporting on your trip to many interested readers. I own the very same model ’49 Cadillac as you and agree that it’s a good car to have such as adventure in. Mine has a manual transmission which may have been a better choice for such a trip (how would you repair a busted Hydra-matic on the fly?), but your results say otherwise, so maybe not either.

I’m also the President of the “Forty Niners” a chapter or sort of sub-club within the Cadillac LaSalle Club devoted to ’49 Cadillacs. We put out a quarterly illustrated 8-page newsletter on all aspects of running, repairing and restoring ’49 Cadillacs. I would like to offer both you guys an honorary membership in the chapter for as long as you like. (Regular mortals and ’49s pay $8/year dues but, hey, after completing the Peking to Paris, we should be paying you to join!) For this I’d need your snail mail addresses. You can check my bona fides at http://www.cadillaclasalleclub.org and click on “chapters”.
